The A level Economics course is a well established and popular course within the faculty and sixth form. It is a dynamic and engaging course which is highly regarded by universities. Many have continued their studies in Economics and have completed degrees at universities including Newcastle, Leeds and Sheffield. The course is delivered by a passionate and enthusiastic team which includes Mr Weightman, Mr Pattinson and Mr Griffiths.

Course Content

The course involves a consideration of macro and micro economics.  We explore markets and how prices are determined through demand and supply. We consider the wider questions governing the management of the economy and examine the dabate between monetarist and Keynesian economists.This involves a consideration of how governments can use interest rates and taxation to generate growth in the economy to avoid recessions and downturns. The course also involves a consideration of the policies that can be used to reduce the impact we have on the environment. The final element of the specification examines international trade and the way exchange rates and balance of payments we will also examine the arguments for and against a single currency such as the Euro.
