The Faculty of English at John Port School is a successful and developing department with 17 staff teaching English Language and English Literature across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. We aim to provide our students with a broad, balanced and rich English curriculum allowing them to become engaged and active learners.

At Key Stage Three students are taught combined Language and Literature skills in reading, writing and speaking & listening in mixed ability groups. At Key Stage 4 the faculty offers courses in GCSE English, GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature. In the sixth form the faculty offers successful and popular courses at AS and A2 in English Literature with a significant number of students continuing their study in the subject at university. 

As a faculty we aim to provide all students with essential skills in literacy and an engaging, enjoyable and enthusing curriculum that inspires students to enjoy and appreciate language and literature.
