Welcome to Modern Foreign Languages

The Modern Foreign Languages Department at John Port is a lively and enthusiastic department made up of 12 teachers, aiming to give every student the opportunity to study at least one foreign language, French, German or Spanish to GCSE level. 

Our aims are to provide enjoyment when learning a language and encourage positive attitudes towards foreign language learning and towards speakers of foreign languages. We also aim to offer insights into the culture and civilisation of the countries where the language is spoken.

The ability to understand and communicate in other languages is increasingly important in our society and in the global economy. Languages contribute to the cultural and linguistic richness of our society, to personal fulfilment, mutual understanding, commercial success and international trade and global citizenship.
