Maths - Key Stage 5

At John Port School we offer an extensive A-Level course in Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Students who want to take any of the Maths A-Levels need at least a 'B' from GCSE Mathematics to do so. The AS and A-Level both take 1 year each to complete.

Year 12 and Year 13

John Port School follows the AQA modular course in both in Year 12 and 13. During Year 12 students have two teachers who work towards a January exam for Unit 1 and then two summer exams in Statistics and Core 2.

During Year 13 students work towards a January exam in Core 3 and then Core 4 and Mechanics at the end of the year in the summer.

Further Maths

On top of the regular Mathematics course we also offer an opportunity to study Further Mathematics. This course is a seperate option block and you must be studying the regular mathematics course as well. In the first year students get the chance to study Further Pure 1 and 4 together with Decision Mathematics. During Year 13 students will undertake Further Pure 2 and 3 together with Statistics 2B.
