World Maths Day
World Maths Day is a time for celebrating maths in and outside of the classroom. Students can use the Mathletics website to challenge other students from around the world in games of mental arithmetic. There are five levels of play and students have to try and get the most points possible in 60 seconds, who knows, maybe they will eventually get into the hall of fame...
Throughout Tuesday 6th March until Thursday 8th March there will be two main activities happening across the school
Activity 1 - Passport
Any students from Y7 - Y11 will be able to take part in filling out a 'passport' during Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. What this means is that during the whole of Tuesday, as it is World Spelling Day, students will try and note down as many spelling, key words, spelling games etc they use in/out of lesson/form. Wednesday is World Maths Day and students must try and find as much maths used within/outside of lesson/form. Thursday, students will try and find as many Science things that is used in/out of the lesson/form and write them in their 'passport'
These passports will be collected in on Friday and the content for each year group judged, the overall winner will receive a £20 Westfield voucher.
The important thing is that this is designed to not make staff include anything extra into their lessons, it is the entirely the students responsibility. It gives students a chance to see how these subjects are used throughout the whole of the school, the more they notice or relate to each special day the better.
Activity 2
All students should have been given username and password for the World Spelling/Maths/Science website. If you want to ask students about this or, even better, let them have a go in lesson or form, they really get into this and have a great time. The website they would visit would be www.worldeducationgames.com and is available for all years from 7 to 11.
