Student Support - Teaching Assistants
The Teaching Assistants main role is to support and assist individuals or small groups with their learning in a classroom setting. However, TA's often fulfil other roles in addition to this.
Other roles include:
- Overseeing pupils during lunchtime and assisting students who may have trouble understanding and accessing homework.
- Either supporting a mixture of subjects across the school or working within a particular faculty to help create differentiated resources for students.
- Liaising with outside agencies such as Connexions or Social services.
- Giving feedback on student progress.
- Amanuensis for examinations and tests, where students receive help with reading and/or writing.
- Creating resources or displays.
- Participating in charity events in and outside of school.
- Guiding students around the site.
- Forming relationships with students in an informal atmosphere.
We have a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants within our department who endeavour to positively support students throughout their time at John Port school.
