The Learning Resources Centre (LRC) provides a well used and valued service within school that supports teaching and learning in all curriculum areas. The LRC Manager is a chartered librarian and is assisted by a graduate trainee, who is gaining work experience before undertaking a post-graduate qualification in library and information management.

The LRC staff work closely with teaching staff, either in the LRC or by classroom visits, to encourage better research skills and improve information literacy, promote online resources, encourage participation in book awards, and to recommend good reads.

A wide range of up-to-date resources are available for staff and students to use, including books,magazines, journals, a careers library, 17 pcs, a scanner, 3 printers and our latest addition of 6 kindles.  The range of LRC online services continue to expand, so that students can access the library catalogue and quality information sources across the school site and from home to support their learning.

The LRC is very popular with students at break and lunchtime, when they are welcome to find a great book to read, do their homework or study quietly.  Keen readers are welcome to join the Reading Team which meets in the LRC on a Wednesday lunchtime.

• The years 8 and 9 'Multimedia Mashup Crew' along with many helpers have spent their breaks and lunchtimes creating a Queen's Diamond Jubilee well dressing to be displayed over the weekend. See the photos in the gallery below, and watch out for the video coming here soon.
• A huge well done to the Bookworms, who took part in the Grand Final of the Derbyshire Literature Challenge at County Hall, Matlock, on the 16th May. Year 9s Matthew, Rachel, Catherine and Oliver came a very impressive 10th place. Photos coming soon.
• We are pleased to announce that the library is being extended in order for us to provide a better learning environment. The room is looking lovely and bright and we are looking forward to the end result, everyone is endeavoring to carry on as normal in the meantime!
• On Friday the 9th of March, year 7 members of the LRC Reading Team who are currently shadowing the Brilliant Book Award went on a visit to Ecclesbourne School to see Candy Gourlay, author of 'Tall Story', which has been nominated for the award, speak about her life and the book.
