Welcome from the Sixth Form Director

We are delighted that you are considering the Sixth Form at John Port School and aim to provide a flavour of our ethos and opportunities on the website. We recognise that the Sixth Form is a pivotal moment in your academic career and a time to explore new opportunities, both academic and extra-curricular.

At John Port School Sixth Form you will enjoy an environment in which our students experience a good balance of independence, challenge and supportive guidance. We challenge sixth form students to take responsibility and exercise leadership for themselves and their own learning.

We believe that every student can excel with the right support and commitment on the right courses. The Sixth Form offers a range of pathways. Alongside a comprehensive A level offering we have an expanding range of Vocational courses over two years, offering more choice than ever to students. Our sixth formers have an impressive history of gaining outstandingly good results and then making a successful transition into higher education or employment. In August 2011 99% of students passed their A Level examinations with 48% gaining grades A*-B. 81% of our university applicants  gained places at their first choice university. We wish them every success with this next stage of their education and look forward to watching their progress.

We believe in developing the whole individual by providing opportunities to pursue ambitions, interests and passions and develop skills and talents. There is a strong sense of community amongst the sixth form, across the whole school and within the wider community. John Port School Sixth Form students are keen to contribute and make a difference.

Great importance is attached to the relationship that students share with both their teachers and tutors, who monitor progress, oversee personal development and prepare you for the next stage of your lives. Your progress will be monitored very closely, teachers and tutors will work with you to ensure that you are always working towards your goals, offering guidance and support throughout your time with us as well as advising you in your choices about your future.

For students currently studying elsewhere, please come along and meet us. Our Sixth Formers will be glad to give you a guided tour of the school and we will be happy to discuss all aspects of the Sixth Form with you.
