John Port Spencer Academy observes local authority admissions protocols, with priority given to children with special educational needs or additional support requirements; and increasingly, from within the broader Spencer family of schools.
The school’s normal admissions area for Admissions in 2020/21 includes the parishes as detailed in the Admission Arrangements policy. The normal area is quite large and is easiest viewed using Parish Boundaries via an Ordinance Survey map on-line here.
Information on applying for a place through the Derbyshire County Council’s Coordinated Admissions Scheme is available here.
Copies of the Academy Admissions Policies are available here:
The Admissions Policy includes detailed information on the applications process; the special consideration given to applications on behalf of children with special education needs and support requirements; and the criteria used when the school is over-subscribed.
Parents of children in Year 6 will receive a letter from the Local Authority inviting them to apply for a place at their preferred secondary school in early September. We have 360 places available in Year 7. Places are allocated in accordance with the admissions criteria, which is available in the Student Admissions booklet. For 2020/21 Year 7 admissions, all places were allocated and we did reach capacity. We would suggest choosing us as your first preference school if you wish for your child to attend John Port.
In Year Admissions
John Port Spencer Academy participates in Derbyshire County Council’s In Year Admissions Scheme to (a) assist in safeguarding matters and (b) to help prevent parents/carers from having to make multiple applications. Full information about the coordinated in year scheme is available here.
