Work Experience

Work Experience is an important and valuable skill for our young people to experience in Year 10. We are proud of our students and they are a credit to themselves and the school when they attend work experience.  Students are able to secure themselves some interesting and varied placements.  Feedback from employers praises our students for their positive attitude and commitment and a number of students have been offered part-time work and volunteering opportunities.

Students rise to the challenge of spending a period of time outside the classroom, learning about a particular job or area of work. During placements, students are able to find out what skills employers look for when they fill in a job vacancy. It is an opportunity to develop self-confidence and communication skills. They meet some very inspiring and motivational professionals during their placements which raises their aspirations. Students appreciate being treated as an adult and respond well to being given responsibility. They enjoy making contributions and being a valued member of a team.

The school uses the Derbyshire County Council Work Experience website; students should find their own placements. This is an important part of the learning process. Researching options and applying for work develops important skills and experience beneficial in further education, Higher Education and employment.

The deadline date to hand in the work placement information form is Friday 14th October 2016, for placements in weeks 1-5 and Friday 6th January 2017 for placements in weeks 6-10.
