Uniform

Boys

Suits

A grey, navy or black two piece suit.  The material should either be plain or with a discreet pattern or pin stripe. If worn, belts should be plain in design and black. Any business suit from the major department stores that fits the above criteria would normally be deemed appropriate.

Shirts

A plain white shirt.  Please do not buy/wear striped/checked or short fitted shirts that will not tuck in, as you will be asked to change them.  Students may wear a plain white unobtrusive vest under the shirt if they choose to do so.

Ties

A smart business style tie should be worn by boys.  For both boys and girls the tie must be worn correctly, i.e. the top button must be fastened and the tie must be tied to fit.  The tie must not be excessively long or short.

Sweaters

In cooler weather students may wish to wear a plain, v-neck knitted jumper in navy, grey or burgundy.

Please note that cardigans, sweatshirts and hooded tops are not allowed.

Footwear & socks

Plain socks in quiet colours.

Shoes

Black shoes.

Suede shoes, boots, trainers, track shoes, plimsolls and black or brown shoes with crepe or other non matching coloured soles or laces are not suitable.

Girls

Suits

A grey, navy or black smart two-piece skirt or trouser suit.  The jacket and skirt/trousers must be matching items – a proper suit.  Skirts should be knee length.  The material should either be plain or with a discreet pattern or pin stripe. City shorts / Three-quarter length trousers are not acceptable.

If worn, belts should be plain in design and black

Shirts & blouses

A plain white collared shirt/blouse. Do not buy/wear striped/checked, or short fitted shirts that will not tuck in, or low front fastening ones as you will be asked to change them. Blouses with frills or heavy embroidery are not suitable. Students may wear a plain white unobtrusive vest under the shirt/blouse if they choose to do so.

Ties

For girls this is optional.  For both boys and girls the tie must be worn correctly, i.e. the top button must be fastened and the tie must be tied to fit.  The tie must not be excessively long or short.

Sweaters

In cooler weather students may wish to wear a plain, v-neck knitted jumper in navy, grey or burgundy.

Please note that cardigans, sweatshirts and hooded tops are not allowed.

Footwear & socks

Navy, black or neutral tights.

Shoes

Low/medium heeled shoes in black or navy blue.  This means proper shoes. (Boots should not to be worn in school.)  On health and safety grounds, backless shoes are not permitted.  Trainers, boots, sandals and open backed shoes, plimsolls and black or brown shoes with crepe or other non-matching coloured soles or laces are not suitable (including Doc Martins).

The following is standard to both boys and girls

Jewellery

Jewellery should not be excessive.  One pair of small ear lobe studs only is permitted, and can only be worn in ear lobes.  On grounds of your safety, other body piercing is not permitted at school. Studs in pierced noses/eyebrows etc are not allowed.

Hair

Should be a sensible style with no extremes of fashion.  For girls any hair accessories should be in keeping with business wear.

Outdoor coats

Outside coats can be worn in transit to and from school and from one building to another but should be removed inside all buildings.

Denim

Any items made in denim are not permitted

Final decisions on any particular uniform issues are at the discretion of the Director of Sixth Form.
