Headteacher’s Blog - 15th June 2018

After a busy few weeks, we are saying goodbye to our Year 11 students today at the end of the last exam in which all students are involved. The final exam is on June 21st. There were many tears and hugs around the Academy as students said goodbye to friends and teachers before departing on their extended summer break. We hope to see many Year 11 students back in the sixth form next year. If they are still unsure, it is possible for students to sign up for the sixth form on Results day (23rd August). Staff will be available to guide and advise as students receive their results.

I have received a number of emails this week from parents praising individual members of staff for the extra support and guidance they are providing for the students. I am really grateful when this information is shared as it allows me to praise the staff in briefing so please continue to share where praise is required. The email address to use is HT@johnport.derbyshire.sch.uk.

The students at John Port have some amazing skills and talents, which they rarely share! If the student are involved with activities outside the Academy we would still like to celebrate their success so please feel free to share any information and photographs (using the email address above), so we can include them on the website (if the students agrees!).

Ethan Williams in Year 7 is a very talented tennis player. Ethan represented Derbyshire U14’s in May and is currently ranked number 1 in Derbyshire at U12 and 2nd in the U14’s . Let’s hope for a Wimbledon success in the future! Ethan has also attended the Nottingham Nature Valley Open this week as ball crew.

A number of our students took part in the County Athletics Championships last Saturday. The students performed incredibly well, congratulations to you all.
