Remembrance Day 2016
On Remembrance Day, Friday 11th November, Lewis Holmes in Year 10 planted a memorial hornbeam tree with a plaque commemorating the Battle of the Somme at the side of the school lake. Lewis had been given the tree after taking part in the Somme 100 commemorative activities at the National Memorial Aboretum in July. He had been invited to attend this event in honour of his Great Grandfather, George Edwards, who served in the battlefields of the Somme. The tree planting was followed by trumpet players playing the Last Post across the school site, to signal the start of two minutes silence which was observed by the whole school.
